Life is too short. It’s too short to drink cheap wine, it’s too short to care what other people think and it’s definitely too short to pretend that we don’t like catchy Taylor Swift songs.
However much I try not to like them, I can’t not. Me and The Fat Jew.
They are so catchy, and more than that, they are truthful and hit a nerve. What is wrong with me? (I’m guessing a lot considering I’m writing a post about Taylor Swift songs.)
But allow me to explain what I mean. Take the following 5 Swift songs which are especially Taylor-made (see what I did there?): –
1. I Knew You Were Trouble
This is a deep song, man. It’s basically a song about self-control, or rather the lack of it. I mean she knew. She knew he was trouble as soon as he walked in (as she says), but she went ahead and got involved anyway. This is me all over. From looking at an expensive item that I know I shouldn’t buy (but I do anyway), to a chocolate cake that I know will guilt me out for days to come but I still gorge on it. Me and Taylor. There is no stopping us.
2. Blank Space
We all have a little psycho bitch inside of us. I mean, we may fantasize about going ape on a homie’s ass but we won’t actually do it. Taylor, I’m sure, has done it. When the director of the video tried to direct her in the wrecking of the car scene, she was probably all like, “dude, trust me. I’ve got this.”
This song is basically about the haters. “Why you gotta be so mean?” she asks. She’s so cute she calls them “mean”. But also, I guess, “why you gotta be such a bitch-ass little punk?” is harder to rhyme to.
4. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
I like how she says “ever” over and over, just to make it perfectly clear that they are never, you know, getting back together. (That’s what she says now, but she’ll feel differently when her period is over…)
5. Dear John
We all have a John. You know who you are. And you should be ashamed of yourself.
Wow, a whole Convo dedicated to Taylor Swift. I feel that I should be disappointed in myself… But strangely… I’m dancing in my seat to I Knew You Were Trouble…
You can’t possibly be surprised.
